How many of you, like me, love to gather around the TV with family and friends to watch the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities? It’s exciting to see competitions like the Skills Challenge, 3pt. Shootout, and the Slam Dunk Contest, which is known to be the most popular of the events. Stars from all over travel into town to get a front-row seat to witness all the fun! It seems that social media had mixed reviews regarding just how entertaining the events were. To be frank, some said it was the worse in history to date, while others found the events rather thrilling.
The 66th Annual All-Star Weekend was held in New Orleans. It began on Friday with the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. ESPN’s Sports Center host, Michael Smith and Jemele Hill were the coaches for the East and West teams. Joined by two familiar faces as their assistant coaches, former co-host to 106 & Park– Rocsi Diaz in the West, and rapper Fat Joe for the East.
A star-studded team roster included celebs such as Romeo Miller and his dad Master P., Candace Parker, Nick Cannon, Kris Wu and Lindsay Whalen. Miller, led the West with 18 points, but it was not enough to take home the W. The West were defeated by the East in a final score 88-59! Now, here comes the fun stuff…I think; All Star Saturday night! It began with the Taco Bell Skills Challenge. 8 participants took to the floor for this one: Isaiah Thomas, John Wall, Devin Booker, Gordon Hayward, Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid, and Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis took home the trophy!
Next up, the 3pt Shootout, consisting of Kyle Lowry, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Eric Gordon, CJ McCollum, Wesley Matthews and Nick Young. In the end, it came down to Cleveland’s own Kyrie Irving and Eric Gordon. They heated things up quickly in an overtime shootout, scoring a tie of 20 pts, but Irving failed short to Gordon.
And finally, the Slam Dunk Contest. Glenn Robinson’s dunk with jumping over a teammate and two others did it for the judges. Most fans mentioned they would love to see Lebron James in this contest one day! Wishful thinking folks.

This led up to the East and West game which went down Sunday night. Anthony Davis took home MVP with a whopping 52 points, well-received. The West won it all 182-192.
