Get OUT, Get OUT, GET OUT!!!

Have you seen the movie, “GET OUT”  yet? Well, brace yourself ladies and gentleman, you are in for a treat. Upon leaving the theatre you will be talking about this one for days to come. This film has captivated audiences, bringing them to the edge of their seats, eyes wide open and jaws to the floor. It’s so suspenseful and thrilling! In fact, it is currently the number one film in the country.  The New York Times rates it as, scary, shocking, sad and even comical. It leaves you with a sense of admiration and provides a lot of foreshadowing of what’s to come.

“Get Out,” is written and directed by actor Jordan Peele and it is his first directorial debut. Peele, is known for starring on the network, Comedy Central, and on the hit series MADtv. His uniqueness and raw talent has set him apart from the rest. This new film, has put Peele in a category of his own. As the motivation and theme for this movie is something that has never been done before. He takes a dramatic film based on a series of events and works to express controversial issues such as race, hidden messages, and problematic issues in America, all in comparison to today’s society and current trends.

This film features actors, you’ve probably never seen or hardly ever see on the big screen. It stars two of the main characters, Chris (David Kaluuya) and his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) an interracial couple, on the way to introduce her boyfriend to her parents. But, little does Chris know that trouble is brewing along the way.

Did you enjoy NBA All-Star Weekend?

How many of you, like me, love to gather around the TV with family and friends to watch the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities? It’s exciting to see competitions like the Skills Challenge, 3pt. Shootout, and the Slam Dunk Contest, which is known to be the most popular of the events. Stars from all over travel into town to get a front-row seat to witness all the fun! It seems that social media had mixed reviews regarding just how entertaining the events were. To be frank, some said it was the worse in history to date, while others found the events rather thrilling.

The 66th Annual All-Star Weekend was held in New Orleans. It began on Friday with the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. ESPN’s Sports Center host, Michael Smith and Jemele Hill were the coaches for the East and West teams. Joined by two familiar faces as their assistant coaches, former co-host to 106 & Park– Rocsi Diaz in the West, and rapper Fat Joe for the East.

A star-studded team roster included celebs such as Romeo Miller and his dad Master P.,  Candace Parker, Nick Cannon, Kris Wu and Lindsay Whalen. Miller, led the West with 18 points, but it was not enough to take home the W. The West were defeated by the East in a final score 88-59! Now, here comes the fun stuff…I think; All Star Saturday night! It began with the Taco Bell Skills Challenge. 8 participants took to the floor for this one: Isaiah Thomas, John Wall, Devin Booker, Gordon Hayward, Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid, and Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis took home the trophy!kristaps-porzingis-wins

Next up, the 3pt Shootout, consisting of Kyle Lowry, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Eric Gordon, CJ McCollum, Wesley  Matthews and Nick Young. In the end, it came down to Cleveland’s own Kyrie Irving and Eric Gordon. They heated things up quickly in an overtime shootout, scoring a tie of 20 pts, but Irving failed short to Gordon.

And finally,  the Slam Dunk Contest. Glenn Robinson’s dunk with jumping over a teammate and two others did it for the judges. Most fans mentioned they would love to see Lebron James in this contest one day! Wishful thinking folks.

This led up to the East and West game which went down Sunday night. Anthony Davis took home MVP with a whopping 52 points, well-received. The West won it all 182-192.

This is a WO-man’s World according to the SAG Awards

The 23rd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) took place in Los Angeles, California and aired on networks TNT and TBS. Stars aligned the red carpet for the spotlight such as Ashton Kutcher, Scandal’s own Kerry Washington and Sofia Vergara from the hit show, Modern Family to name a few. This award show was unlike many others because it did not have a host. I know what you’re thinking, how is that possible? What about organization? What about keeping the audience engaged? Well according to the producer, Kathy Connell, she thinks that it will set the award show apart from the rest. Her main objective was to focus on the actors and not just one personality alone. The lack of hosts, was her way of keeping the emphasis on the actors. Good for you, way to go!

In addition, the theme of the show seemed to take an interesting route. Women won big at the SAG Awards. After all, we know who runs the world, GIRLS!

Major movies to hit the big screen such as LaLa Land, Fences and Hidden Figures showcased the talents, strengths, and dedication of actresses around the world. Known for movies like Spider Man 2, and The Help,  Emma Stone won Best Actress for Lala Land. Stone plays Mia, an aspiring actress and musician who is struggling to make ends meet. The storyline for this film was unique because it was created to tell the story in a musical format.

And moving right into Black History Month, Viola Davis just keeps on making history. This time for her role in the movie, Fences as she took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor. Davis, was all smiles as she accepted her award. She is the first African American woman to win 5 Sag Awards, a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and is currently nominated for an Oscar. The Oscars are due to air February 26th at 7pm ET on ABC. I will definitely be tuned in, will you?

As they say, first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in the baby carriage, but I think we have to change that to “babies” in the carriage for 2017.
